(Marietta, Ga. – April 28, 2016)
The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation honored the recipients of 42 different scholarships at a reception held Tuesday, April 26, at Piedmont Church in Marietta. The 56 winners, who represent a wide variety of the programs offered at Chattahoochee Technical College, will be able to use the money and items received to further their education and career goals.
“Today, we are here to celebrate our students. These are students who have proven to donors, trustees and staff at the college that they are a great investment that will pay off in a successful graduate and into a successful career,” CTC President Dr. Ron Newcomb said.

The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation honored the recipients of more than 40 different scholarships at a reception held Tuesday, April 26. — Louis Tonsmeire Studio.
The winners of all the scholarships competed against more than 850 applicants from Chattahoochee Technical College. The recipients are scored by the college’s Board of Trustees and then the top applicants are matched with the appropriate scholarship. In addition to meeting the special criteria for certain scholarships, applicants must meet specific GPA requirements, demonstrate financial need and be enrolled for a required number of credit hours.
“The Chattahoochee Tech Foundation has 42 different scholarships (some awarded to multiple students) and they all have varying criteria. Some are open to all programs and only require a 2.0 or greater GPA and some are for a specific student residing in a specific county,” said Advancement Coordinator Amanda Henderson.
Awards range from several hundred dollars to $2,500.
“In any given year, the state funds about 35 percent to 40 percent of the college’s budget, and, of course, you have revenues from tuition and fees, but, even so, you still end up a little short. Donors, who want to give, help make it possible for students to achieve their educational goals. They are making a difference,” Newcomb said.
Nursing student Danielle Kellough of Acworth said she was honored to be awarded the Cleo Ingram Scholarship of Health Care Science. As a single mother and a veteran, Kellough said the scholarship will help her achieve her goal of becoming a nurse.
Marietta resident Sarah Stiefler, who received the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Endowed Scholarship, called the recognition a “miracle.”
“I was a displaced housewife and found myself with no education. I have just continued to put one foot in front of the other, and it has been a true miracle to receive this scholarship,” she said. “It gives me hope and reminds me that the community is made up of amazing, generous people.”
Charm & Goodloe Yancey Foundation Diesel Tech Scholarship winner Jeremy Doan, of Ellijay, who is studying Diesel Equipment Technology, said the award will “give me the tools I need to succeed in changing other people’s lives.”
