The cosmetology lab at Chattahoochee Technical College’s North Metro Campus in Acworth has undergone minor renovation work in an effort to keep up with the industry standard. The salon lab, located in room 134 in the A building, received new styling stations and hydraulic chairs just in time for the 2017 Spring Semester, which begins Jan. 17.
“We always strive to keep up with equipment and work spaces that are currently used in the industry in order to stay current with trends so our students have the best workplace simulation,” said CTC instructor Penny Cannon. “Salons now must have comfortable chairs that are easy to maneuver so that both the stylist and client are comfortable and safe.”
The Cosmetology program, which is also offered at CTC’s Marietta and Appalachian campuses, was first introduced at the North Metro Campus in January 2003 and continues to be one of the college’s most popular programs of study. The program meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology and trains students in all the basic skills needed for a career as a hairstylist, esthetician, cosmetologist, salon manager, or a salon owner.
“Chattahoochee Tech’s Cosmetology program continues to see high enrollment numbers due to the success that our students have had passing their state board licensing exam,” Cannon said. “Students are also able to find employment after graduating, as there will always be a job available in this field.”
A full-time student who has successfully completed all prerequisite courses with a C or better and who has been admitted into the Cosmetology program can earn a diploma in three semesters.
