An Austell-based construction equipment dealer gifted $3,500 to Chattahoochee Technical College to support the Diesel Equipment Technology program.
Yancey Bros. Co., the state’s largest Caterpillar dealer, presented the check to Chattahoochee Tech President Dr. Ron Newcomb on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Marietta Campus. Executive Director of Development Melanie Lambert said the funds would be used to purchase additional equipment for the Diesel Equipment Technology lab at the North Metro Campus in Acworth and to award a scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year.
“Yancey Bros. has been a constant source of support for our diesel program for several years now, providing much needed funds for equipment and scholarships, as well as working with our instructors to ensure that students have the right training and experience to be ready for work on day one,” Lambert said. “We are so grateful for this gift, and we’re also honored that Yancey Bros. has chosen to partner with us.”
The college’s president shared a similar sentiment.
“Yancey Bros. has been one of the diesel program’s strongest supporters,” Newcomb said. “This deep level of commitment makes a difference for our students, as the contribution ensures that our lab features current technology while also guaranteeing that our top students will be rewarded for their hard work through much needed financial support.”
Yancey Bros. Co. has been supporting Chattahoochee Technical College students through scholarships for three years. The company also attends career fairs at the college to recruit qualified graduates, said Yancey Bros. Co. Technical Recruiter Gary Coombs.
“Chattahoochee Technical College has a good, solid diesel program. With the return of the economy, we are always in need of qualified technicians, and we have found that Chattahoochee Tech provides students with the basic skills needed for us to bring them on as entry-level technicians.”
The contribution will also be used to support the college’s newly opened Veterans Service Center at the Marietta Campus. The Veterans Service Center was created to support the more than 700 Chattahoochee Tech students who have identified themselves as former military or veteran family members. The primary objective is to assist veterans and their families as they transition to a post-secondary academic environment to promote program completion and career placement.
