Chattahoochee Technical College was recognized by the Cherokee County Historical Society for its efforts to preserve the Woodstock Campus, which is located in the heart of downtown Woodstock and is one of two campus locations in Cherokee County.

Built in the 1930s, the campus sits on the former site of Woodstock Elementary School and is now used by the college as the flagship post-secondary educational resource in Cherokee County. Through a combination of providing access to a co-working space and offering college-level courses and programs, the campus provides life-changing economic and educational opportunities to those living in Cherokee County.

The property was leased from the Cherokee County Board of Education in 2004, then deeded by the Board of Education to the state for use by the College in 2013. The campus underwent an extensive $5.3 million renovation in 2013 and reopened for the Fall Semester in 2015. All areas on the 46,011-square-foot campus originally containing windows were replaced with new windows, dropped ceilings were removed to expose the bead board ceilings, industry type HVAC exposure was developed for the older portion of the building, vinyl composition tile was removed to retain the original hardwood floors, and vinyl composition tile was removed to stain the original concrete flooring. In addition, the original school bell remains in the cupola and bronze historical plaques were reinstalled at the front entrance of the building.

The gymnasium underwent a massive $998,500 overhaul in 2016 and is now used as the college’s Student Center and also serves as Fresh Start Cherokee’s The Circuit, which was created to foster entrepreneurship and business development in Cherokee County.

Renovations included adding new fixtures, furniture, and equipment as well as revitalizing the hardwood basketball court and the original score board.
