Certified Master Chef Daryl Shular paid a visit to Chattahoochee Technical College’s Culinary Arts program on Wednesday, July 26, to give students a different perspective in culinary preparation and execution.
According to his website, www.chefdarylshular.com, “In 2014 Chef Daryl Shular etched his name in the culinary history books by becoming the first African American and minority to successfully pass the grueling 130-hour, eight-day test known as the Master Chef exam. After years of preparation and personal sacrifice, Chef Daryl Shular prevailed and earned the culinary industry’s highest honor, the designation known as Certified Master Chef (CMC).”
Chef and Culinary Arts instructor Hillary Gallagher said having an acclaimed chef visit her students was a great opportunity for them to gain additional knowledge in the field.
“Chef Daryl Shular provides a different voice and the students get to hear a different perspective, especially from someone who has reached the pinnacle of our field,” Gallagher said. “I feel it really makes an impact.”
She continued, “Although he no longer works directly in culinary education, we contacted him and he agreed to come out and talk to our students about pates, terrines and charcuterie.”
The Culinary Arts program is offered at the Mountain View Campus, one of the college’s eight campus locations. The degree program may be completed in as little as two years and the diploma may be completed in less than two.
