Fans of fun, food and golf, mark your calendars — the Mike Peterson Memorial Scholarship Fund is currently seeking participants for its annual golf tournament. On Monday, Oct. 9 at the Cartersville Country Club, the Mike Peterson Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will bring together golfing enthusiasts and education supporters for a fun-filled event that benefits automotive students at Chattahoochee Technical College.

Cobb County residents Alan and Claire Peterson, with the help of family friends Ken and Clara MacVicar, organize a memorial golf tournament every fall to celebrate the life of their son, automotive enthusiast Mike Peterson, who passed away in 2002.

In addition to the tournament, the event will feature giveaways and a silent auction. You can register online, by mail or in person for the event, with an entry fee of $110 up to Sept. 25, when the fee will increase to $120. Each entry includes green fees, range balls, cart rental and buffet lunch following the tournament.

“Awarding tool sets to students is why we do what we do,” Alan Peterson said. “We love to see these students come out of school and gain employment right out of the gate.”

Throughout the 13-year history of the event, the organization has raised more than $125,000 to fund the purchase of tool sets for deserving students in the automotive programs at Chattahoochee Technical College.

“By virtue of our partnership with Snap-on, we have been able to provide tool sets to over 70 deserving students since the tournament’s inception,” Alan Peterson said. “It is uniquely humbling and gratifying to witness the deep appreciation expressed by the students as they receive their awards and understand the difference that this event is helping to make in their lives.”

He said the opportunity to help students this way would not be possible without the support of tournament participants and the organization’s partners at Snap-on and Chattahoochee Technical College.

“We are extraordinarily grateful for all of the support this tournament has received over the years,” Alan Peterson said.
